Where Can We Eat in Powhatan?

There are some rural communities that are very limited when it comes to offering great places to dine. Powhatan County is not one of them. There are several excellent dining destinations in the county offering virtually any cuisine your heart or your taste buds might desire.

Sweet Shop Donut Café

1800 South Creek One

Is it a donut shop featuring fresh, baked daily classic creations or is it an inviting café serving delicious dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner? All of the above. And now, it’s even more than that. You can enjoy your favorite wine, beer and mimosas along with the delicious food. Check out their Happy Hour. There’s a new slogan at the Sweet Shop: Wine. Dine. Donuts. Sounds like a perfect combination. The café opens for coffee, donuts and breakfast every morning at 7 a.m. (8 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays).

Angela’s Italian Ristorante and Pizza

3452 Anderson Hwy.

Delicious pizzas; tantalizing pastas, including their popular baked spaghetti; fresh salads featuring their award-winning house dressing  and amazing sandwiches – You’ll find all of your Italian favorites at Angela’s. Serving lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. (11:30 on Sundays) seven days a week. They also offer full-service catering.

Wildwood Bar-B-Que

2470 Anderson Hwy. (Flatrock Village Shopping Center)

Freshly prepared, hand-pulled barbecue awaits you at Wildwood. You’re also going to love their homemade sides, such as baked beans, Cole slaw, green beans, mac & cheese and more. Open from 11 a.m. seven days a week for lunch and dinner.

Rosa’s Pizza & Italian Eatery

2470 Anderson Hwy. (Flatrock Village Shopping Center)

Enjoy hand tossed, thin or pan pizza with all of your favorite toppings. Rosa’s also offers a delectable variety of pastas, subs, calzones and more. House specialties include a wide variety of seafood, steak and poultry dishes. Rosas’s opens at 10 a.m. seven days a week.

El Jinete Mexican Grill

1795 South Creek One

You’ll find all of your favorite Mexican dishes on the extensive menu at El Jinete. Try their torta – a Mexican sandwich filled with your choice of grilled steak, chicken, or carnitas served on warm toasted bread with grilled onions, avocado, lettuce, tomato and cheese dip. The restaurant opens daily at 11:30 a.m. Every Tuesday is  Taco Tuesday. Tacos are just a buck each when you purchase a drink. You can also enjoy quesadilla specials every Wednesday.

Allen’s Chinese Restaurant 

3430 Anderson Hwy.

Open for lunch and dinner (from 11:30 a.m.) seven days a week, Allen’s offers all of your favorite Chinese dishes, from egg rolls and dumplings (steamed or fried) to Kun Pao Chicken to Mongolian Beef. Check the menu online for chef’s specials and other delectable delights. You like it spicy? Allen’s can do that, too.

The Café at Maidens

3847 Maidens Road

Since 2009, this former gas station turned café has been earning its well-deserved reputation as a wonderful sandwich shop. The café is open for breakfast and lunch (6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) Monday through Saturday.

County Seat Restaurant & Gathering Place

3883 Old Buckingham Road

Southern-style cooking has been drawing the crowds in for four generations, now. There’s always something going on, including live music on Saturdays. The County Seat is open seven days a week.

Fine Creek Brewing Company

2425 Robert E. Lee Road

Technically, this may not be a restaurant. The folks at Fine Creek prefer to think of themselves as a brewery that offers outstanding food. The focus is on seasonal, local fare with a menu that changes weekly. The brewery is open Thursdays through Sundays.

Four Seasons Restaurant 

3867 Old Buckingham Road

Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday, Four Seasons is a popular Powhatan Courthouse destination. Enjoy a variety of Greek and Italian favorites, as well as excellent steak and seafood specialties. They serve breakfast, too.

Frisby’s Restaurant 

2150 Anderson Hwy.

It’s food and fun at Frisby’s. Enjoy your favorite sandwiches, salads and fried foods along with live music. They open at 6 a.m. for breakfast seven days a week.

Mabel’s Espresso Bakery Café

3844 Old Buckingham Road

Everyone raves about Mabel’s burgers and “crazy” milk shakes. Using only the finest ingredients, Mabel’s offers mouth-watering sandwiches, salads, paninis and more. Check their website for daily specials. This cozy cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from Monday through Saturday.

Osaka Hibachi & Sushi 

2105 Academy Road

In the mood for sushi or hibachi? There’s no need to drive into town with Osaka right here in Powhatan. This friendly Japanese eatery offers a tempting array of delicious fare including teriyaki and hibachi dishes along with a variety of freshly prepared sushi rolls. Order online. They deliver, too.
