The Freckled Frog: Owners of Midlothian shop are “people pleasers”
Succeeding in business means knowing how to service your customers, and not everybody has grasped that concept. Some wonder what the statement means. Others, like the owners of The Freckled Frog, live it each day.
“We treat people like we want to be treated. It’s our motto,” says Cindy Morrissette, co-owner of the Midlothian shop. “Whatever makes people happy is what we’ll do.”
Part of that philosophy means not charging for credit card use and offering discounts to public servants and county employees, including firefighters and teachers. Cindy says she and her co-owner husband, Michael, offer them a 5-percent discount on furniture and a 10-percent discount on other items in their store at 13211 Midlothian Turnpike.
The family-owned shop sells Amish furniture made in the United States, and each piece comes with a manufacturer’s warranty. “If something happens with your furniture, you just bring your furniture back here, and we’ll give you a brand new one,” Cindy says. “Most places make you send it to wherever it was you got it from.”
Michael says they stock from 1,200 to 1,800 pieces of furniture and sell gift items, including birdhouses, candles, goat milk soap, pictures and yard art.
The furniture – made of recycled, high-density, durable polyethylene and stainless steel hidden fasteners – is assembled and handcrafted by Hostetler Tables & Chairs in Pennsylvania. Pieces include dining chairs; counter tables and chairs; bar tables, chairs and stools; single-glider chairs; snuggle-back and comfy-back chairs; rockers; swivels; chaise lounges; round, oval, rectangular and square tables; backless benches; insert tables; footstools; ottomans; folding chairs; and cup holders for chairs.
Twenty-four vibrant colors are available, but if a customer doesn’t like the color, the Morrissettes will exchange it for another. The Adirondack chairs are the best sellers, with wooden rockers coming in second.
All the environmentally friendly poly furniture cleans easily with nonabrasive soap and water, and never requires painting or staining, according to The Freckled Frog website. The Hostetler catalog indicates its low-maintenance furniture has a smooth feel, and its UV stabilized color resists cracking, splitting, molding and fading.
“A person knows they’re getting something that’s guaranteed for 20 years,” Michael says. “That’s pretty awesome in itself. They just last, last and last. You know you can stand behind it because it’s a great product.”
The Morrissettes offer free delivery within reason as well as drop shipping, if necessary.
