Renew Your Passion for Recycling at Thrill of the Hunt
In our consumer-driven society, it’s safe to say that many purchases are made to last just long enough for the next model to appear on the shelf. And, judging by the heaps of worn-down, mass-produced furniture headed for the dump each spring, it’s safe to say that this mentality has extended to how some furnish their homes. However, Thrill of the Hunt is choosing to make a difference, and they’re doing it with style.
The Ashland store has been around since 2011, but recently came under new ownership. Mike and Kristina Lyden took over the popular shop and are committed to bringing a renewed passion for upcycling and home decor to Hanover. Art, collectibles and vintage finds … they’ve got it all. “We do workshops; we do custom painting; we do custom upholstery, and some custom furniture,’’ Mike says. “We offer interior decorating and design surfaces.” In regard to home needs, this is your one-stop shop.
There’s the old adage that “they don’t make things like they used to,” and there is some truth to that when it comes to the furniture that is standing strong for 50, 60 and 70-plus years. “Everything that we have are the older pieces that have the quality craftsmanship and good design features, but that needed a little love,” Mike says, adding that they’re bringing these pieces back to life and giving them a second chance.
For those Annie Sloan chalk paint enthusiasts out there, this is the place for stocking up on new quality colors and paints and maybe even learning a thing or two at one of their many workshops. Mike says their desire to lead workshops and teach these skills is really about being passionate about their product and wanting to be involved. “Our main thing is just getting the paint out into the community,’’ he explains. “We don’t want to be the people that just sell you the paint, sell you the supplies. We want to foster that friendship, that if you have a question, we’re here for you to call us. That’s the fun part for us.”
So, whether you’re looking for a total redesign of a room, or a few small color changes, go talk to Mike and Kristina. They’re there to help bring your hidden style to life.
