As you may recall, earlier his year, Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter, but the only prediction that I have is more weeks of fantastic barbecue in the West End. Since the snow has left us and things have been on the brighter side, Buz and Ned’s has been working overtime to serve up their famous barbecue to customers who are ready to shake off their winter woes.
Perhaps it was the aroma of real hickory-smoked barbecue that brought out the one and only Jeff Goldblum on his recent visit to Richmond. Buz and Ned’s employee Ryan Loyall was as happy as one would expect to meet the Jurassic Park superstar, “He was exactly how you would expect him to be with his mannerisms, and even sang a little while taking a picture with him. It all happened so fast and unexpectedly, but even the short interaction with him will be something I’ll always remember.” While it’s not always a Hollywood actor enjoying barbecue, you can expect to find some friendly faces at Buz and Ned’s.
While most of us have been huddled inside from the cold, Buz has been preparing months worth of barbecue-fueled activities to make up for our collective absence. Their current menu boasts a filling all-beef chili brunswick stew, smoked sausage, and smoked wings, all of which are prepared with 100% hickory smoke. To accompany their fresh and expanding barbecue menu, you have your choice of 30 taps, 40 bottles and cans, 80 whiskies, and a whopping 50 tequilas (West Broad location). This summer will also usher in their famous pig roasts, for which Buz will slow-roast a whole pig to create an old-fashioned Southern style buffet.
Going beyond their taking care of customers’ appetites for 25 years, Buz and Ned’s has taken care of the community. Over the years they’ve given over $618,000 to charity, and they’re not stopping. During April, they will take on UNOs (United Network for Organ Sharing) for a cut of their barbecue sales. So, while you can always expect good and fresh barbecue, on some nights you can expect to make a difference by partaking in some tasty barbecue ribs.
There are two convenient Buz and Ned’s locations in the Richmond area – 1119 N. Boulevard and 8205 W. Broad Street. For more info, visit online at BuzAndNeds.com.
